Crewe’s local MP, Laura Smith, stopped by our logistics operation last week, wanting to talk about young people getting ‘Career Ready’ in the local area.
She was also keen to learn more about the Future Talent programme here, at AO Logistics.
As a former teacher, Laura became an MP in 2017 on a campaign of ‘job security for people in the local area’, a key point of which is helping today’s youth get ready for tomorrow’s workplace.
Our company has a strong history of encouraging talent (both young and old) with 46 apprentices taken on across the business in the past 4 years. We’ve also been working closely with South Cheshire College, Crewe Pledge, and Career Ready, to put young people at the heart of employability in the area and (more specifically to us) get them interested in a career in Logistics.
Our Future Talent advisor, Kerrie Salisbury, presented to the MP and showed her just what we’ve been doing, as well as our own strategy for the future.
“We asked her to work collaboratively with us to raise aspirations in the area, and help us to promote what we do by signposting students in schools and career fairs to a job in logistics. She could really help us by networking and also celebrating the work we do when she’s out in the community”
With plenty of ideas in the pipeline, such as getting local colleges to offer subjects more relevant to logistics, we’re confident that our reputation as one of the area’s top employers will go from strength to strength.
